LCSO Announces 30th Citizens’ Police Academy

Loudoun County, VA – Loudoun County Sheriff Michael L. Chapman announced today the formation of the 30th Citizen’s Police Academy, which will commence on Wednesday, March 14, 2012.

Members of the class will participate in training classes taught by Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office personnel. The classes provide an overview of all the aspects of law enforcement within the agency. Members of the class may also have the option of participating in a ride-a-long with a deputy after completing the academy.

The free sessions will be held each Wednesday evening from March 14th through May 23rd.  Each session will be two-and-a-half hours in length and begin at 7PM.  Class locations will be announced prior to the upcoming session.

The classes are open to Loudoun County residents over the age of 18. To enroll in the Citizen’s Police Academy, please contact Bonnie Burke at the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office at (703)771-5722, during normal business hours of 9AM to 5PM.

Registration will be on a first-come, first-serve basis. Enrollment is limited to 30 participants.

 

Christmas Tree Pickup

American Disposal will pickup Christmas trees on Fridays in January.  Please remember to remove all ornaments and decorations before putting the trees out.

 

Pipe Bomb on Manning Square

WASHINGTON -- Several homes were evacuated on Friday afternoon after a pipe bomb was found in Sterling, Va.

The Loudoun County Sheriff's office says the 12-inch long pipe bomb was found around near the sidewalk on Manning Square near Whitcomb square around 1 p.m.

Several townhouses were evacuated while the device was being examined by a police robot. Everyone was let back into their homes around 5 p.m. when the device was taken to be destroyed.

The Fire Marshall's office is now investigating.

UPDATE (1/1/2012): From the Loudoun County Sheriffs Office, the pipe was filled with sand, and was not intended to be used as an explosive.

 

Atlantic Boulevard Extension Now Open

After years of hard work, the Atlantic Boulevard Extension is now open! This hopefully will mean a decrease of traffic through the community on Magnolia Road.

Please be aware of the new traffic patterns associated with this.  Traffic on Atlantic has the right-of-way, so be sure to heed the stop sign.

In addition, stop signs have now been added on Atlantic Boulevard at Steeplechase Drive.

 

Loudoun County Sheriff's Office Newsletter

In an effort to keep citizens better informed about crime, the Sheriff's Office has implemented a monthly Neighborhood Watch Newsletter. This newsletter includes safety and security tips relevant for the month and the time of year. It also includes information on recent crimes and crime trends in the county. The newsletter will also detail educational crime prevention training events that are open to the public.
