Dominion Station Neighborhood Watch Program

On February 26, 2007, Dominion Station residents created a Neighborhood Watch Program (NWP), in conjunction with the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office. Deputy Specialist Jason Leydig, our contact, met with residents to describe what a NWP is, its importance, how to get it started, and how to maintain it.

According to Deputy Leydig, in recent years, neighborhoods have experienced rapid change. The old, well-established neighborhood has been replaced by a highly transient, growing community where people seek more and more privacy. This life style tends to promote unfamiliarity with neighbors, which enhances the opportunities for the criminal element and increases the community's vulnerability to crime. These conditions dictate the need for a crime prevention program to intensify neighborhood security.

The main objective of the NWP is to reduce the incidence of crime by increasing citizens' awareness of burglary and other neighborhood crime through a continuing information program; making recommendations to assist citizens in making their property more secure; developing a neighborhood action program where neighbors help watch each others property and report suspicious persons and activities to the Sheriff's Office; and encouraging all citizens to cooperate with law enforcement agencies in reporting crimes. Three NWP signs are posted throughout Dominion Station along Magnolia Road, in an effort to deter crime within our community.

The Dominion Station NWP meets several times a year. If you would like to join the NWP and/or receive more information, please contact the NWP Co-Chairs Lisa Eyler at (703) 501-2043 or Melissa Fishman at (703) 298-4482.

If you witness suspicious criminal activity, please report it to the Sheriff's Department by calling (703) 777-1021.

As always, if there is an emergency, call 911.

Loudoun County Sheriffs Office Newsletters

In an effort to keep citizens better informed about crime, the Sheriff's Office has implemented a monthly Neighborhood Watch Newsletter. This newsletter includes safety and security tips relevant for the month and the time of year. It also includes information on recent crimes and crime trends in the county. The newsletter will also detail educational crime prevention training events that are open to the public. A copy of the most recent issue of the newsletter is online at the Office of the Sheriff Adult Crime Prevention Unit web site.

Anyone who would like to receive the newsletter may sign up through the Alert Loudoun system located on the Loudoun County website at www.loudoun.gov. The system is free and allows those who sign up to receive the latest news affecting the county. Meetings

May 2009

05-15-09

On May 14th, five residents from Dominion Station townhomes met for the DS NWP. The meeting was hosted by the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office. Deputy Spurlock presented an overview of the newly revised NWP, as well as defined the goals and objectives of the NWP.

To better inform Loudoun residents, the Sheriff’s Office initiated the Roam Secure Alert Network at www.loudoun.gov, crime alerts, e-mails, community information exchanges, NWP meetings, and crime reports at www.crimereports.com.

To keep a handle on crime within our community, it is important for DS residents to attend NWP meetings, attend educational classes offered by the Sheriff’s Office, watch out for your neighbors and neighborhood, call the Sheriff’s Office when you see anything unusual, and share your experiences with your neighbors.

May 2008

05-14-08

On May 14th, eight residents from Dominion Station (DS) townhomes and condos met for the fourth DS Neighborhood Watch Program (NWP). The meeting was hosted by the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office. Deputy Specialist Nathan Payne described crime statistics over the past six months within our community (including numerous GPS units stolen from vehicles), efforts to decrease speeding along Magnolia Road, community policing, graffiti along Magnolia Road and Atlantic Boulevard, and gang activity in general (not within our community).

A reminder to always report suspicious criminal activity to the Sheriff's Office at 911 if an emergency, or (703) 777-1021 in a non-emergency. Please lock all houses and vehicles, and remove all valuable items from vehicles. Keep house outside lights on during the night for security, and shred all important documents in your trash to prevent identity theft.
